When The World Starts to Wonder

Hm.

I am seeing a growing number of men in their early 40s with tinted green and purple hair. I have come to the conclusion that this was not intentional, and there is in fact a growing epidemic of faulty hair dye. Those poor middle aged men.

I have had this dilemma, about how much to tell people in the email about the investigators I am working with. I never know how much is too much, so I dont write much, but I have decided I can write more than I have been- because even though they are few- they are my life!!

So Christina and Karan are the Nepalese couple who I am completely in love with. They have been investigator for the past year and a half, and believe absolutely everything. They are so funny, and we have so much fun with them. This week, we committed them to giving up coffee, and I think they got all caught up in how excited me and sister flake were that they agreed hahaha. We took their coffee home, and put it on our shelf so that Higashi Shimai (shes Japanese) would think that we didnt know it was coffee. Hahaha sometimes I am such a brat....sometimes I just need to laugh hahaha anyways. So we called Christina this week and asked her how the no coffee thing was going- here is how it went down-
"HEY!!! Soooo....how is life without coffee?"
"uhhhh...fine..."
"Have you drinkin any??"
"No...you guys took it away from me...so I look on my shelf and I have no coffee..."
Doesn't sound all that funny, but it was hilarious at the time. In my own mind I am just like hahah yeah we will take your coffee, your alcohol, yo cigarettes....but anyways. We are working with them and I am in love! They told us last time they really want to be baptized, but they feel like its not possible for them to give up all these things. Dont you fret though, I know they will, because I have the energy and faith for both of them combined haha. Sister Flake and I decided that we want to show them we are doing this with them, so in our lesson tomorrow we are going to tell them they can choose something for us to give up too. I wouldn't be good with anything. I am just praying that sugar doesn't come to their mind...

Alright- now Yukari. She is an angel, and she loves the missionaries, and she absolutely adores church. She has a lot of faith, and it has been amazing seeing her testimony of Jesus Christ grow. Before we started teaching her, she had just heard of Him and thought he was some random historical character. But now she knows more, and feels more. We love her to death. Recently, she has been feeling a little off, and so she went to the doctor for a check up and has been there ever since. They don't know how serious her condition is, but next week she is getting a surgery and we hope and pray that it will make everything better. So when she crosses your mind, please pray for Yukari. Pray that she will have energy and courage!

This week Miyuki became a new investigator!!!! Shes the mom, shes got a husband, and they have a nine year old girl and a 3 year old boy. They are a golden family. Not to mention they just moved back from the United States. They lived in Texas and then Los Angeles for 10 years (put together). They speak perfect English :) they love Christians because they have helped them through a lot. They seem like a golden family, and In about two weeks we should be meeting her husband. I can just see this family becoming super strong members of the church. I love them so much! When we visited them, she had her apartment decorated for Halloween---which isn't all that common here, and for that hour- I felt like I was home! It was so so nice.

So- those are the people we are working with right now! :) They are all wonderful.

This week my bike basket finally broke off while I was biking. i have just been waiting for it to happened, and it happened. it was pretty funny. But the ways to deal with it and fix it were pretty ingenious, and provided a lot of entertainment. So I just borrowed tools from the elders and took it all off. Which made me really want to be a super duper eagle-scout like sister and always be prepared---and know everything about bikes (they cant be that complicated) and always have a tool kit with me...so that is my next step! Get excited!! By the time I get back I`ll be like Bob the Builder! but yeah. I got upset at my basket, and told it that I would never have another one like it, but then apparently I am getting an invisible basket from an elder who cant use it cause he junkais and then he is going home! I pray that it will be tougher than the last wimsy one.

BY THE WAY!!!!!! WE ARE GOING TO KRISPY KREME TODAY!!!!!!!! I cant wait.

anyways. One of my new hobbies is making cases for everything.... both bibles, both book of mormons, my hymn book, and now my white handbook. it just makes everything so much more exciting. I am all about the crafts.

For halloween Sister Flake is being a pumpkin...and I still don't know what I am going to be. We shall see. My idea was Laura bush, because I have blonde hair and then I could borrow sister bush`s nametag...and then I realized that people probably wont get it. And I don't even know anything about the lady, so I cant play the part. I am trying to think of other ideas...

Oh my goodness! I almost forgot. Fun moment. One night we were feeling way adventurous, only we didnt even know it! We biked out to this area about an hour and a half away from out apartment to visit 2 less active families. one of them didnt exist. we were looking for 304...there was a 303...then a 305....it was like the Black`s residence-- serious black? How the house is hidden? anyways, it was really funny, so we asked the neighbor about it and he told us about how in Japan 4 is an unlucky number, because 4 is `yon` or it can also be `shi` which means death. Anyways, it was an experience. Then the other one...it was getting progressively windier and rainier-- we were just in our normal clothes mostly cause we love the rain- and then the wind is just really really picking up. like knocking us off our bikes haha it was hilarous. So much fun. and so we finally find this apartment complex, and it has this big wall around it. So what do we do with a wall? We climb over it! Dont worry, it was nighttime so we werent seen. (by anyone but this man who stopped for a second and then just kept walking. We stayed still so I am pretty sure he thought we were gargoyles. Thats what we were going for at least. anyways, so it was pretty much one of the happiest moments just climbing over this wall and fence, and getting to the other side. We then go and knock on the door, this girl answers the door and long story short..it was one of the most awkward encounters I have ever had. She did not want us there, but Japanese people are really nice so they wont usually just come out and say it. When we got to the door she was like "arent you guys cold??" us-"no...its just a little windy hahahaha" her-"uhh....yeah.... there is supposed to be a typhoon...its getting stronger..." and she looked at us like we were crazy. Anyways, all in all it was a really fun experience.

man my hands are cramping up from all this typing! Alright well! Until we meet again I suppose! I still cant get over how awesome conference was. If anyone is ever jsut trying to figure out what to do with their lives- got watch conference. make a party out of it. invite your friends...I dont know. Its just the best thing ever. Also- my companion didnt get to watch the relief society broadcast, and so we got permission to watch it again this week.

I am so spoiled.

I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! This week I read the first two articles in the December 2000 ensign- Hinckley and wirthlin, and they were both SO GOOD! Please read them if you have time! Please read them even if you dont have time. they should be on lds.org I believe.

Love you all!
Dont forget to be tenacious! Remember that quote-- Louis Pasteur "my strength lies soley in my tenacity". I just think thats the coolest. Be like Christ! be like Aslan! be like Gandalf! But mostly, be like Christ!!!

have a great week! share the love of the gospel, let everyone around you know they are loved! Even if they are not the most loveable. No matter how people react, Heavenly Father will be so grateful if you try to show love to everyone around you! You will never fail if you are trying to do the right thing!

LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH! I know I have said that a million times. but really! Smile lots and be safe, every one of you!

Sincerely,
Lane Shimai!
